Converting to SAP S/4HANA is far too expensive, takes forever and has a great risk of failing. Preconceptions such as these still prevent companies from grasping the opportunities presented by conversion. Tchibo operates 870 shops in 8 countries, with 24,300 retail depots and national online shops. The centrepiece of its success is the multichannel sales system that, alongside coffee, offers changing non-food products and services. To speed up its business processes and be able to react to customer wishes in real time, Tchibo chose q.beyond as its lead implementation partner to convert its pan-European SAP Retail System to the new SAP S/4HANA generation. Christoph Kastaun, Tchibo’s IT Director, and Thorsten Raquet, a member of q.beyond’s management, tackle some of the preconceptions surrounding S4/HANA and outline how they made a success of the transformation.
